[Fandfs] Sarah
Dear family and friends,
Sitting in the hospital Sunday evening.
SArah, Ian and two friends are watching "lost" on a laptop on Sarah's
Hosital bed table
No news of any substance, just watch and hurry up and wait.
Yesterdays news was not good.the photos taken in radiology showed no
change in the blood clot as well as a tear inn the artery caused by
the tube theyfed up her femeral artery. This site was "leaking", and
so they stopped pumping in the Clot busting TPA. After several people
made comments referring to the loss of her hand and arm, the surgical
option of the by pass no longer seemed so far fetched. It wasnot
until 10pm that Dr Pak arrived, but he did cheer us up. He has great
energy and bed side manner. When he looked at the photos from the
afternoon he saw things to be optimistic about. Sarah being as young
as she is gives us reason for hope that her bodies healing powers will
win out and begin to reabsorbe the clot. So for now we watch and
wait. Sarah was allowed no food up until today as they worried they
may have to roll her into surgery any moment. So today she ate
lightly and has been allowed to sit up.
Mostly we pass the time reading and visiting with friends who come to
cheer Sarah on. We are all tired and generally worn out. Sarah's
bravery gave way last night to tears and a panic attack. All the
morphine takes it's tole and produces an emotional roller coaster ride.
The hospital staff has been wonderful ,other than one nurse we had
last night when things were very tough. We finally had to go to the
manager and air our complaints, not an easy thing to do, however, the
results were good and we were again impressed with how this hospital
is run.
We have been so happyto receive everyone's good thoughts and e-mails.
Thank you.
I am staying with Misha and Robert Grudin who are taking very good
care of me. Also, they just happen to be close friends with Sarah's
thesis advisor at mills, her thesis being due in about six weeks.
Hard to know what six weeks means, suspended as we are in the timeless
twilight zone of the intensive care unit where life goes on 24 hours a
day.
So ,we wait and wait.
The Easter bunny Lawyer jack and judge Laura phoned to say they would
stop by on an hour. Makes our hearts turn toward Carmel and the
Easter party we were so sad to have been missing. Life goes on
Love to all
Honey and Sarah and Ian
