Christmas Eve. The saga of the Christmas Tree has continued on for the past week or so, and on the night of the 23rd I finally tackle the project, working well into the morning hours of Dec. 24, and after some sleep, its back to work on the tree. At 4PM I gather up the unhung ornaments and put them away in a box. Sonja, bless her heart, comes over and we work like demons cleaning up the house for our traditional Christmas Eve Party. Jim Pitman had called on the 23 and said he would like to come down on the 24th with his wife and son Ian. Ian has been studying at a choir school these last 2 years, and Jim wanted to bring Ian down to sing for Cynthia. As we move toward 7PM I get a message that Cynthia has decided not to come over this evening, but to save her strength for Christmas Day. Yikes! I say, and dash next door where I find Cynthia's bedroom filled with people, Ian and Joanie B singing to her in their clear pure voices. I wait to the end of the song and say "Mother, please, you must come next door, I've made you a beautiful tree." It does not take much arm bending for her to rethink her decision, and she asks that we get her dressed to go next door. The prospect of making the trip next door, being pushed in a wheel chair in the dark, had seemed daunting. But as always, she rose to the occasion and was very happy she had done so, enjoying the Christmas Eve Party until 10 PM. 1. An out of focus Ian and Joan sing from the balcony. 2.
