[Fandfs] Holiday Update From The Highlands
Dearest Friends and Family
I'm taking over email duties this evening as my mother is doing battle with a fourteen-foot cypress tree, trimming it with vigor. I write this in the glow of looming Christmas tree and warmth of roaring fire.
Cynthia has been in fine form for the past few days, coming down to the living room to sit on the couch in the afternoons and have tea and visit with all the Christmas company. We have Tom and Molly's grandsons, Ollie and Sam, visiting from Manchester which adds a lot of life and holiday cheer to the scene around here. Cynthia did not want to miss a second of the excitement today, visiting with friends and family well into the afternoon. This evening we had a dress rehearsal for caroling, and Joanie B. came and caroled with us for well over an hour and we sung our way through the entire caroling book by the time dinner was ready, Cynthia starting us out on many of the carols.
Tonight is Laura Flanagan's birthday and the caroling was followed by a bustling party in the living room. Ollie, aged 2, would periodically demand we sing Jingle Bells just one more time. Tom constructed a candelabra out of a massive peace sign and filled it with birthday candles, which could be rotated so that Laura, with the help of Sam, age 5, could blow them all out. Cheers all around and chocolate cake. When the candelabra was dismantled Cynthia excused herself to retire for the night, to rest up for the Christmas Eve revels ahead of us.
We wish you all a Merry Christmas from the Highlands!
Sarah
